In recent years, whilst I still do solo work and sing with the Keelers, retirement from the day job has allowed some more "cerebral" activity. As well as reviewing albums and writing articles for leading folk magazines, I published an academic paper on the origins of the song family "John Barleycorn", and have given talks on a range of topics, and produced some more "folk shows". 2005 was a notable year, with a talk on the songs about Nelson, a major production on Trafalgar, and a huge schools shanty project as part of the Keelers. Since then I have been researching material for a book on the Elliott family, festivals, o be published in 2008. The new CD, released Summer 2007, is allowing me to get more bookings, particularly festivals, and the Keelers are involved in a big theatre project touring in February 2008.
